Welcome to — Rumah Whampoa
Rumah Whampoa is a travelling exhibition featuring photography, collectibles and personal stories from the elders of Whampoa. Come and journey through their moments and memories and get to know them — they may even be your very own neighbours! Each room in Rumah Whampoa has its own collection of stories to explore: Kitchen, Bedroom, Craft Room, Playroom and Garden.
Rumah Whampoa visits the neighbourhoods of Whampoa and Boon Keng over the course of 12 weeks from May 20 to August 18, 2017. The exhibition is part of the Curating Whampoa project conceived by the Tsao Foundation and Prof Thomas Kong. It is curated by the Whampoa elders and members of Tangible Stories and Photovoice SG, and supported by the National Heritage Board.
Curating Whampoa is a community participation initiative of ComSA Whampoa Centre to engage and connect residents and communities in relation to the ageing population. Through this project, active ageing is encouraged by equipping the elderly with heritage curation skills and handing them the reins to shape their ‘living museum’ across the heartland.
