This course equips you with the skills to work effectively with older adults and their families. You will learn how to understand family dynamics, relationship patterns, and their impact on the care of older persons. You will also gain practical skills in using communication strategies and Genograms to map family relationships and better support older adults in need.

This course is suitable for you if you are:

  • Healthcare and geriatric care professionals working with older adults, such as nurses, doctors, geriatricians, allied health professionals, and social workers
  • Caregivers and family members who support older adults at home or in the community
  • Volunteers and support workers involved in eldercare programs
  • Programme executives or Programme Coordinators in community care or Active Ageing Centres

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand family dynamics and relationship patterns using Family Systems Theory
  • Apply effective communication strategies when working with older adults and their families
  • Use Genograms to visualise family relationships and identify ways to support the older person
  • Recognise how changing family structures affect care and support
