This course equips you with essential skills to guide older adults in reflecting on their life experiences. You will learn how to use effective communication techniques, such as summarising, reflecting, and affirming, to encourage sharing and foster meaningful conversations. By exploring personal histories, you will help older adults reframe challenges, boost self-esteem, and adapt positively to life changes.

This course is ideal for you if you are:

  • Counsellors, therapists, or other mental health professionals
  • Healthcare and geriatric care professionals, including caregivers, social workers, and allied health staff working with older adults
  • Volunteers, support workers, or family caregivers involved in eldercare

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the life review process, its framework, and key discussion topics.
  • Use communication skills, including reflection, appreciation, and affirmation, to encourage older adults to share their experiences.
  • Ask process-oriented questions that raise self-esteem and confidence in the older person.
