This course equips you with the essential skills to identify Bio-Psycho-Social risks, atypical presentations, and red flags in community-dwelling older adults. You will learn to recognise urgent situations and signs of elder abuse, and apply screening and reporting procedures (SBAR) to ensure timely escalation and protection of older persons.

This course is ideal for you if you are:

  • Caregivers or family members supporting older adults
  • Healthcare and geriatric care professionals, including nurses, doctors, geriatricians, allied health professionals, and social workers
  • Community volunteers, eldercare students, or trainees
  • Staff in senior care centres, Active Ageing Centres (AACs), or community care organisations

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Apply the Bio-Psycho-Social (BPS) model to assess older persons, including identifying those at risk and recognising unusual changes in behaviour or health.
  • Recognise common emergencies and urgent situations (Red Flags) in community-dwelling older adults and respond appropriately.
  • Identify types of elder abuse, use screening tools, and apply SBAR for structured reporting and escalation.
