At 65, Jumiati binte Amin has experienced both caregiving and receiving care. For many years, she cared for her ageing parents and later for her husband after he suffered a stroke. As he was reluctant to accept help from outside the family, she took on the responsibility of caring for him largely on her own.

That changed when she was diagnosed with lymphoma. Unable to manage everything alone, the family engaged a domestic helper – her first step in accepting additional support.

After her husband’s passing, Jumiati became a care recipient herself. She has been with Tsao Foundation since January 2023, receiving coordinated support from our clinical and counselling teams that addresses her recovery, emotional wellbeing and social connection. Having experienced both sides of care, she hopes to encourage others to seek support early and recognise that care is a shared journey.
