While having some community or social services related work experience is an advantage, you do not need to have such experience to take the WSQ course. You might like to know that 90% of our trainees have no prior community or social services work experience.
You can take the WSQ course even if you are unemployed but it is important to note that the Academy does not pay training allowance to trainees.
You can take the WSQ course even if you are employed in a non-related industry but it is important to note that:
- The Academy currently does not offer part-time WSQ courses. You will therefore need to make arrangement with your employer to attend the course full-time (Mondays to Fridays daily, 9.00am to 6.00pm).
- Upon your completion of the course, you MUST take up employment in a community or social services industry (of Singapore) for a minimum period of six months and subject to employment tracking by Hua Mei Training Academy throughout the mentioned period for reporting to SkillsFuture Singapore.
Only Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) are entitled to course fee subsidy by SkillsFuture Singapore for the WSQ course. Foreigners on Singapore work passes and sponsored by industry employers can also take the WSQ courses but are not entitled to course fee subsidy.
You are required to attend a course preview organised by the Academy to have a better understanding on the WSQ Community and Social Services courses as well as WSQ requirements and trainees’ obligations when admitted into a WSQ course.
It is compulsory to attend the preview before applying for the course. If you are keen and would like to apply for the WSQ course after attending the preview, you may immediately put up your application to the Academy. Please kindly note that in order to proceed with the screening, participants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $53.50 including GST.
You will be interviewed by our interviewer(s) as part of our trainee admission selection process. A Conditional Offer of Admission will be made to eligible and suitable applicant.
